Solar Eclipse

On 12 August 2026, a total solar eclipse will be visible from the Westfjords of Iceland. Bolafjall is one of the most remarkable places to experience this rare natural event, offering panoramic views over the surrounding mountains, fjords and the open sea.

For safety and traffic management reasons, the road to Bolafjall will be closed to general traffic earlier in the day. Guests will therefore travel to the mountain by organised shuttle bus from Bolungarvík.

The meeting point is at the **Community Centre in Bolungarvík**, where guests will check in and receive a wristband or ticket before boarding the shuttle bus. The wristband is valid for the bus ride up to Bolafjall and the return journey back down after the eclipse.

Shuttle buses will operate regularly throughout the afternoon. Guests are encouraged to arrive early, as a large number of visitors is expected in Bolungarvík on this day.

Once at Bolafjall, guests will have time to enjoy the surroundings and prepare for the eclipse. After the event, organised shuttle transport will take guests back down to Bolungarvík.

This is a unique opportunity to witness one of nature’s most extraordinary events from one of Iceland’s most dramatic viewpoints.

## Weather, cancellation and refund terms

This ticket is valid for organised shuttle bus transportation from Bolungarvík to Bolafjall and back down to Bolungarvík on 12 August 2026.

The tour will operate regardless of cloud cover, rain or limited visibility, provided that road and weather conditions are considered safe and access to the area is permitted by the relevant authorities.

As this is a natural event, we cannot guarantee clear skies, good visibility or an unobstructed view of the eclipse.

Purchased tickets are generally non-refundable. Refunds will only be issued by special agreement, where required by law, or if the tour is cancelled entirely due to force majeure or circumstances beyond the operator’s control. Such circumstances may include, but are not limited to, severe weather, official road closures, instructions from authorities, natural disasters, accidents, emergency situations or other events that make the operation of the tour impossible or unsafe.

The operator reserves the right to change departure times, boarding arrangements, traffic flow, waiting areas, routes or any other part of the operation if necessary due to safety, weather, traffic management, instructions from authorities or other conditions on the day of the event.

If the tour is cancelled by the operator due to force majeure or circumstances beyond the operator’s control, ticket holders will be contacted as soon as possible and the available options will be reviewed, which may include a refund, credit or another solution depending on the circumstances.

Shuttle Bus to Bolafjall – Total Solar Eclipse, 12 August 2026

Þann 12\. ágúst 2026 verður almyrkvi á sólu sýnilegur frá Vestfjörðum og Bolafjall er einn af einstökustu stöðunum til að upplifa þennan sjaldgæfa náttúruviðburð.

Vegna öryggis og umferðarstýringar verður vegurinn upp á Bolafjall lokaður almennri umferð fyrr um daginn. Skipulagðar rútuferðir verða í boði frá Bolungarvík upp á fjallið og aftur niður eftir sólmyrkvann.

Mæting og brottför verður við **Félagsheimilið í Bolungarvík**, þar sem gestir fá afhent aðgangsarmband/farmiða áður en farið er í rútu. Aðgangsarmbandið gildir fyrir ferð upp á Bolafjall og til baka niður aftur.

Ferðir verða farnar reglulega yfir daginn og gestir eru hvattir til að mæta tímanlega, þar sem búast má við miklum fjölda gesta og umferð í Bolungarvík þennan dag. Markmiðið er að tryggja öruggt, skipulagt og þægilegt flæði gesta til og frá Bolafjalli.

Á Bolafjalli gefst gestum tækifæri til að njóta stórbrotins útsýnis og upplifa almyrkvann á einstökum stað. Eftir að viðburði lýkur hefst skipulagður flutningur aftur niður til Bolungarvíkur.

## Skilmálar vegna veðurs, breytinga og endurgreiðslu

Miði gildir fyrir skipulagða rútuferð frá Bolungarvík upp á Bolafjall og til baka niður aftur þann 12\. ágúst 2026.

Ferðin fer fram óháð skýjafari, rigningu eða takmörkuðu skyggni, svo lengi sem aðstæður til aksturs eru metnar öruggar og yfirvöld heimila akstur á svæðinu. Þar sem um náttúruviðburð er að ræða er ekki hægt að ábyrgjast útsýni, heiðskíran himin eða að sólmyrkvinn sjáist óhindrað.

Keyptir miðar eru almennt ekki endurgreiddir. Endurgreiðsla er aðeins veitt samkvæmt sérstöku samkomulagi eða ef ferð fellur alfarið niður vegna óviðráðanlegra atvika, svo sem lokunar vegar af hálfu yfirvalda, alvarlegra veðuraðstæðna, náttúruhamfara, slysa, neyðarástands eða annarra atvika sem rekstraraðili hefur ekki stjórn á og gera framkvæmd ferðarinnar ómögulega eða óforsvaranlega.

Rekstraraðili áskilur sér rétt til að breyta tímasetningum, brottfararfyrirkomulagi, akstursleið, biðsvæðum eða skipulagi ferðar ef slíkt er nauðsynlegt vegna öryggis, veðurs, umferðarstýringar, fyrirmæla yfirvalda eða annarra aðstæðna á viðburðardegi.

Ef ferð er felld niður af hálfu rekstraraðila vegna óviðráðanlegra atvika verður haft samband við miðahafa eins fljótt og auðið er og farið yfir möguleika á endurgreiðslu

Rútuferð á Bolafjall – Almyrkvi á sólu 12. ágúst 2026

It is believed that the eclipse will be most visible in Iceland, and the Westfjords are the perfect place to experience this natural wonder. We offer a four-hour sailing tour where we will do our best to view the eclipse for as long and as clearly as possible. Onboard, there will be knowledgeable experts in astronomy who will share their insights with passengers. We will sail from the harbor in Ísafjörður out to sea, away from light pollution, to ensure the most exceptional experience possible for our guests.

Iceland is closest to the point where the solar eclipse will be most visible, with that point located just outside the middle of Breiðafjörður. This location will allow the eclipse to be seen for the longest, lasting 2 minutes and 18 seconds. Although the eclipse can be viewed from various places around the country, there are several reasons why the Westfjords stand out. One of the key factors is light pollution; the Westfjords have very little light pollution, and even less when sailing further out into the fjord. This will provide an even better experience for those wishing to witness the eclipse under optimal conditions.The landscape of the Westfjords is also unique, making the sailing journey and the overall experience of the trip even more remarkable.
