Hesteyri is a former fishing village in the Hornstrandir Nature Reserved and has been abandoned since 1952. The old village comes to life during summer as the former residence and their families still own the houses and land. Hesteyri is a good start or end for those hiking on their own in the area and also a great destination. Here you will find a guesthouse and it is possible hike in the area whiles staying here the whole time.
